How have children accommodated to COVID19

I clap, you clap
In addition to the night, we also take a day nap
We chop and clean
We watch again the movies we have seen
We try things never done before
As the holidays extend more and more

The blessing in disguise as one might call it, the lockdown has given us humans, a lot of time to spend with our children. For the ones staying at home be it adults or children, to interact, play and share ideas with the family each day can come as a simple yet challenging task. I mean what can one possibly talk about when the routine is mundane and as repetitive as it can get. Working parents dawning capes of homemakers, domestic helps, chefs and everything that can possibly exist. Life has never been this easy to be contested.

As for the children, they are used to vacations annually if they are school going and younger ones are just overjoyed to be at home with their parents around more often.

Studies have shown that children adapted better to the lockdown than adults. As adults we might have run out of Netflix options, interesting recipes to experiment, posting old pictures but the children still seemed glued and hooked with the same verve with which they were when it all began.

Online platforms

More and more IT, consulting and BPO firms are resuming work through digital platforms from home.  However the peer and departmental dependence as hindered the smooth functioning. Now if we speak about the historic move of teaching virtually, students seem more than fascinated by this new way of meeting their friends and teachers. Getting their hands comfortable with technology children are rejoicing these online interventions in every way.

Household chores

Not just the physical inability but for various other reasons like work at the office, lack of help, household chores have not come as a welcomed gift of this lockdown for adults. On the contrary it is rather fun for the children to execute these tasks on a daily basis. While they may not deliver with perfection in many cases but the enthusiasm to perform these duties is unmatched.

Social media challenges

Be it draping a saree or putting a picture of a previous holiday the graph of excitement in adults can be compared to the wavering hill illustrations that children make in their scenic drawings. As for the children, from submitting online assignments to posing with parents, everything from them comes with a wide smile.

PMs request

There is a left and a right always but there is an over creative segment that go beyond it sometimes. Some adults had chosen the extreme loudspeaker gatherings and firecrackers to execute this request. On the contrary the sound vibration appreciation to the lighting in the darkness, the tasks were well performed and adhered to by the children with glee.

News

To inculcate a habit the purpose of the activity must be established clearly and convincingly. This phase where there is a total cut off from the world, the only most reliable source is the news. In the form of print or TV children have been enjoying the news more than ever. The curiosity finds no better friend than the news. On the flipside adults have a new friend in Whatsapp and Facebook.

Social distancing

As tough as it might have been earlier, children have been willingly keeping distance from friends. Evening park routines, play dates at home, cycling with friends all have been on a standstill since the lockdown announcement. But children yet seem happy and content and why not.. they have all the time they have ever wanted with their first best friends in this life. Their parents!

Children are may be not the easiest when it comes to demands, obedience and behaviour in malls, parties or weekly Sundays. But the lockdown owing to the Corona Pandemic has brought out the best in these little creations of God.
